Mobile Number Portability Service (MNP) Comes real in India

The Mobile Number portability service ( MNP ) for which the mobile subscribers of India were waiting is now going to be a reality. It is a facility to enjoy the services of any mobile network operator without changing your mobile number. It came in existance in Haryana. It will be activated all over India soon. i.e within 2011 November 25. This facility is aiming the 70 crore mobile subscribers in India. On sending an sms to 1900 the current service provider will send the porting code to the subscriber. This code is to be used in the application form provided by the desired service provider. Within the next 48 hours, the whole service will be carried out by the desired service provider. It will take about 7 days for complete transfer of the number from one service provider to the other. But TRAI says that it will take nearly 15 days in North-east states like Jammu Kashmir and Assam. The subscriber has to pay 19 rupees to make use of this service. If the subscriber has changed the service provider once, he can switch to another service provider only after next 50 days
