Autoplay is very useful, but can also be a security risk. Almost all the viruses are creeping into the system files through autorun.
It would be safe to keep autorun off.
To turn it on or off:
1. Open gpedit.msc from
the run box from the start
menu.
2. Navigate to Computer
Configuration >
Administrative Templates
> System
3. Find Turn off autoplay
If you use data cds frequently on your computer, you'd better keep autorun off.
