How to Disable Autorun to be Safe from Virus

Autoplay or Autorun is very useful, but can also be a security risk. Almost all the viruses are creeping into the system files through autorun. When we insert a CD or connect a USB mass storage device like Pen drive or Flash drive, there is a possibility for viruses creeping into the system. In order to get rid of this security threat we can think of disabling autorun. Disabling autorun will not permanently block the autoplay functionality in your system. You may enable autoplay at any time if needed.

To turn it on or off:
1. Open gpedit.msc from the run box from the start menu. (you can think of opening start menu by pressing both the 'windows key' and Letter 'R' together.)
2. Navigate to Computer Configuration => Administrative Templates => System
3. Find Turn off autoplay

If you use data cds frequently on your computer, you'd better keep autorun off.
